Environment Context
Environment context is a free-text space where you record standing facts about your environment for the SenseOn team. Capturing details such as admin accounts, IP ranges, live-response preferences, locations and hostnames in one place gives the analysts working your cases the context they need, without looking it up elsewhere.
The page stores plain text only, and line breaks are kept.
Accessing Environment Context
Navigate to Settings > Environment context.
Admins can view and edit the page. Managers and Analysts can view it, but the fields are read-only for them. When you cannot edit, the page shows a read-only note in place of the editing controls.
Built-in sections
The page opens with three built-in sections, each a plain-text box grouped by the question an analyst is asking.
| Section | What to record |
|---|---|
| Accounts | Accounts and admin accounts: account name, owner, privilege level, expected source IPs or locations, notes. |
| Network and locations | IP addressing, guest network preferences, and locations and travel: internal, public and VPN ranges (CIDR), guest network behaviour, office locations, expected countries, impossible-travel exceptions. |
| Known environment | Hostnames, remote access tools, pentest preferences and third parties: naming conventions, critical hosts, approved remote-access tools, pentest windows, and third-party vendors. |
The page also lists Examples of what you might include as expandable guidance, with prompts such as live-response preferences, guest network preferences and pentest preferences.
Custom blocks
Below the built-in sections you can add your own free-text blocks for anything that does not fit the three groups.
- Select Add an item in the footer.
- Give the block a name and add its details. Both are required before the page can be saved.
- Optionally add keywords to the block. As you type a block name, suggested keywords appear that you can accept, and you can also type your own.
To remove a block, select Remove on it and confirm in the dialog. The block is deleted when you save.
Note: Adding, editing or removing a block only takes effect once you Save. Until then your changes are staged on the page.
Limits
The page enforces the following limits. The character counter in the footer shows your current total and warns as you approach the overall limit.
| Limit | Value |
|---|---|
| Total text | 20,000 characters, counting the built-in section bodies plus each block's name, content and keywords |
| Custom blocks | Up to 50 |
| Block name | Up to 200 characters |
| Keywords per block | Up to 20 |
| Keyword length | Up to 64 characters |
Saving changes
Select Save to apply your changes. The Save button stays disabled until you make a change, and while any added block is missing a name or details or you are over the character limit. The footer shows who last edited the context and when.
Someone else may be editing at the same time. If another user saves the environment context after you opened the page, your save is refused to avoid overwriting their change. A warning appears offering to Reload. Reload to pick up the latest version, then re-apply your edit.
Audit trail
Changes to the environment context are recorded in the Audit Log, including the user who made the change.
